JAS Conducts 2nd Annual MIRROR Retreat At Cafe Luke

The Junior Auxiliary of Slidell (JAS) held the 2nd annual MIRROR retreat for members on August 17, 2019. The meaning of MIRROR is; motivate, inspire, re-engage, re-educate, organize and refresh. Eleven members participated in thought provoking activities and a breakout session to discuss Membership, Provisional Training, Service Projects, and Grants. Each breakout group was tasked to review results from the 2018 MIRROR retreat and update the list to reflect what is needed to move JAS forward into another successful year. Members discussed the new project, S.T.E.A.M. IN THE PARK, to be launched March 14, 2020, at Heritage Park. This project educates children from all socio-economic backgrounds by engaging them in fun “hands-on” activities and demonstrations that inspire them to seek careers in science, technology, engineering, the arts, and mathematics. They also celebrated the success of the existing service projects and the completed goals of 2018 – 2019.
New goals for the 2019 – 2020 year were identified at the end of the day. JAS is excited to put these plans into action to faithfully serve the greater Slidell Community in the upcoming year.
Special thanks to Cafe Luke for providing an inviting venue and delicious food for our retreat!

New Playground Equipment in Heritage Park!

JA Slidell enjoys bringing smiles to the faces of those lives we touch through our community service endeavors and especially when it touches the lives of many at once!  One recent fundraising project was to provide equipment for the playground in Heritage Park.  Pictured here is JA Slidell President Deb Jones’ grandson enjoying the equipment with his friends.  We are proud and blessed to have the opportunity to bring into the lives of our community.  Please contact us if you are interested in joining our community service initiatives!

Junior Auxiliary of Slidell Welcomes National President, Charlott Jones, to Annual Christmas Dinner

Junior Auxiliary of Slidell kicked off the holiday season on December 5th at the Pinewood Country Club with its monthly general meeting and Christmas dinner. Not only did the chapter have 36 active members present, there were 40 life and associate members and 6 provisional members at the event.  Several unwrapped toys were donated for Boys & Girls Club.  The provisional members sold raffle tickets for a Mardi Gras basket and Spa basket to raise funds for their upcoming project, Play It Forward.  The chapter was honored by special guest, Charlott Jones, who is the national president of the National Association of Junior Auxiliaries. Ms. Jones traveled from Jonesboro, Arkansas, to see first-hand the impact this Chapter makes in the Slidell area.  Her focus this year is “Paying It
Forward” and after the project reports were presented, it was evident that the Slidell chapter is doing just that through their many projects for children and families in the area.
