KIT (Kids in Transition) students are served through “adopt a student”, sending messages of encouragement, birthday, and Christmas cards and/or gifts throughout the year. KIT seniors are assisted with senior prom by providing them gift cards for hair, mani-pedis, corsages, boutonnieres, and dinner gift cards. The project also volunteers during Thanksgiving and Christmas to serve meals to those in need in our community. Backpacks for Kids falls under the HU umbrella, as it services the weekend meal needs of elementary school KIT children by sending them home each Friday of the school year with non-perishable items to consume through that weekend. There is an option to one-on-one mentor at-risk teens and young adults to encourage and/or help them develop a plan for independence and a successful life. These teens may come from various contacts to include YCP (Youth Challenge Program) and KIT.
The Hearts United ladies created laundry money packs for teens that need a little extra help.
