Teaching children positive life skills now so they can grow up to live a positive and productive life.
The Children’s Life Skills service project began as a Provisional Project of the Class of 2016. This class of 12 women, also known as “The Dynamic Dozen”, worked to identify the most pressing issues facing our children. They created templates for each topic. These templates can then be used in any setting for children from elementary to high school ages. Each template enlists professionals in the community to demonstrate or teach a certain principle then JAS members direct hands on activities or crafts to reinforce the message of the topic. Boys & Girls Club proved to be an excellent place to implement the program choosing “no homework” Fridays once a month to be the most effective time. This proved to be a successful endeavor so the JAS Chapter voted to adopt the project to continue the positive work that had been started.
Our Children’s Life Skills project had a great time on September 13th at the Slidell Unit – Boys and Girls Club of Southeast Louisiana teaching anti-bullying techniques. The children worked on a K.I.N.D.N.E.S.S. poem and signed a pledge not to be a bully.
